The Secmair story

  • 1907

    CREATION OF RINCHEVAL

    Rincheval was one of the first companies to design, manufacture and sell bitumen, or “tar” sprayers, chip spreaders but also boilers. The company innovated and was present in all the major events in a century of road and maintenance technology.

    CREATION OF BREINING AND FIRST SUCCESS

    Founded by Robert Breining and his brother in Bonn in 1907, Breining revolutionised German roads by discovering the properties of of tar, and in particular its adhesive power. Considering the fragility of paved roads and their consequences on users (potholes, dust), Robert Breining had the idea of replacing the paving with tar. Robert Breining launched the production of a binder sprayer.

    BREINING INNOVATIONS AT THE TURN OF THE 20TH CENTURY

    At the beginning of the 1900s, Breining built many innovative machines such as the self-propelled binder sprayer, the binder on a carrier, the grit spreader, the slurry machine, the hot mix asphalt machine.

    The introduction of bituminous emulsion (Pressure spreaders, Bituminous tarmac spreaders, Heating and pumping stations)

    GENERALISED USE OF MODIFIED BITUMENS

    Generalisation of the use of modified bitumens in many areas: modified bitumen plants, adapted storage, segregation-free, so called “multi binder” spreaders for emulsions and modified emulsions.

    CREATION OF SECMAIR

    SECMAIR designs and builds road maintenance machinery. Its machines are designed for the repair and/or creation of carriageways using a technique known as surface dressing.

    SECMAIR INVENTS THE SYNCHRONOUS CHIPSPREADER (PATA)

    This machinery revolutionised the road repair business. It made it possible to spread the bitumen and chips at the same time while achieving accurate dosing (synchronous spreading technique). It also made it possible to automate local road repairs which up till then were manual.

    BREINING JOINS THE FAYAT GROUP AND JOINS RINCHEVAL PRODUCTION

    With its entry into the Fayat Group, Breining machines are offered by a standardised network in over 140 countries in which the group is represented.

    MERGER OF SECMAIR AND BREINING

    Merger of the Breining and Secmair production. Two service centres in Cossé-le-Vivien France and Remshalden in Germany.
